Happy 57th birthday

She is 57.
She has flipped past her menopause.
She seem pure and contrite. But she isn't.
She has always been intimidated by her peers.
They are quite better off than her.
She never knew why. Or perhaps, she does.
But ego wouldn't let her adjust.
Her teenage years were unruly.
Now, the menace had eaten deep into her.
An unrepentant cankerworm.
She loathes dirt, yet wallows in it effortlessly.
She craves freedom. Hence, she was never married. Yes, ego at play again.
Not even her could control her emotions.
The filthy odour of malevolence excites her.
 Nobility makes her cringe.
She just could never bring herself to conform with good morals.

At 57, old age isn't even taking its toll on her.
Not even in the slightest.
Or she was probably ageing immorally.
Agile as ever. Corrupt as ever. How she could balance both, I couldn't possibly fathom.
Alas, She birthed me.
Yes, she never married.
No, I'm not like her.
Perhaps, I got adopted. Just perhaps. All I know is she nurtured me.
But I couldn't bear her attitude. So l distanced myself.
I still watch over her. And I pray for her.
Whether I die first or she does, I can not say.
But my only wish is to see her change for good.
I love my mother. But she doesn't know. She's too engrossed with immoralities to know I do. So, today, I summoned courage, went to her saying, "Happy 57th birthday, mom". Dumbfounded. Ashamed. She exclaimed, "Goodness! 57? But where's my freedom?

Sadly Nigeria kills one interest to be patriotic.

@scarlet yea it's hard to be proud of a failed system. There's really no much to even be proud of here.

Nevertheless, Nigeria will die the day we stop believing in her.

Happy Birthday Nigeria!  Thanks for everything. My passport is always green! Wish you greater heights as you grow older.

I don't blame Nigeria for her failures. The black man wasn't created to lead, he was created to follow. That's why most African countries are underdeveloped, we don't know what it means to be selfless and patriotic.
