I haven't been to church in 8months and counting, and I'm still the kind, compassionate and good person I have always been.I pray everyday and I have a good relationship with God. I see church as a social gathering..I only go to church if I want to socialise. Contrary to what some people think, Church doesn't change anyone or improve anyone's moral character there are Evil people who take front row seats in church every Sunday and they still remain same way. It's just not for me these days... but for some reason, today, I had missed the choir (that was the main reason I went to church when I used to. I will get in for 10am and leave the minute the choir was done). Anyways, so I decided to stream and It wasn't as impressive as I remember it being... sound quality from online streaming certainly. Truth is I find that the average Nigerian places a higher premium on attending a physical church and often justifies with statements such as collective blessings (I forget ths actual word now... grrr) which they claim is not available to those who stay home. Lol. The other day, I watched on telly (the rccg channel) as a pastor mentioned that the blessings of the prayer in question was only for those present at the camp ground. My jaw dropped and then I laughed out loud. That was the last time my mum who is pretty much the everyday Christian mother listened. Personally, I can't be bothered how people spend their Sunday... to each her own. The only bit I find terribly upsetting is when I am caught up in those horrid traffic situations. It is better we live our lives according to our understanding of what is right and wrong or our personal understanding of the bible than living according to the detects of our fellow human. Using myself as an example am from a strong Anglican family I attended an Anglican girls sec sch, I attended EFAC I went for bible classes study 1 to 13, I attended prayer meetings and received series of deliverances but today I dey follow woman wetin come happen? Attending church services doesn't make us Christians, a lot of people who go to churches these days go to show off their new stuffs while others go for hook up the remaining no even knw why them come church out of the full congregation maybe its just 2% that came to worship God. Why na... how can you just exclude me from this sunday gathering . not fair o. I will sha still say my own - I prefer neither. As a spiritual person, I prefer to connect with God 1-1. And I've found that many who claim to be Christian's don't necessarily act Christlike.. So whether they are streaming online or attending in person, doesn't really change one's true self. I usually leave there feeling blessed and more connected to God. However, "wash night" was my last day in church. I also currently have 5 missed calls from my mum, shes calling to ask if i went to church -_- she does it every Sunday and every time my reply is the same. I feel bad. Tender Posted January 19, 2018 Share Posted January 19, 2018 Hmmm, i have not been to church for more than a year and still counting and i'm still the same personality. i still exude and portray all the characteristics imbibed into me. Going to the church is definitely over rated. Having a personal relationship with God cuts it for me. I know few acclaimed men and women of God indulging in things they prance on the pulpit castigating. Some other church gatherings are for fashion, wealth etc competition.
