  1. Defending others can be a fulfillment of purpose to save lives and promote human rights; recently it has become dangerous, risky, stigmatizing and discriminating…. Someone whom i thought should defend me even when the world turns against me said to me; I won’t be surprise if I find out tomorrow you are gay, because you are already beginning to act like it”. Only because I said whoever is not comfortable with the work I do should give me alternatives or shut up! The statement came as shock, not because I have not heard worse or had worse experience more than just statements, but I was shocked because of whom it came from. And no alternatives can be better than serving humanity. Without self exemption, so many human rights defenders have suffered and still suffering persecution, hate, stigma and discrimination just because we speak for vulnerable and marginalized groups, worst of all LGBTI (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex). And I begin to wonder, what is so special about being LGBTI or defending LGBTI. One major reason why there are so much activism around this area is because there are actions and bad laws that violate people’s rights. The society use the opportunity to preach hate, blackmail, crucify, persecute and discriminate loving people only because of their sexual orientation. They use religion and culture as basis for argument. News flash! LGBT persons are not aliens; they live among us, they hold reputable positions in the world, they are politicians, celebrities, husbands, wives, parents, you celebrate them, some are even your role models, they preach and pray on pulpit, people fall under anointing when they speak and lead worship songs in church, they lead prayers in mosque, they represent family and friends you have. A saying says; “when throwing a stone in the market, be careful because you don’t know if it will hit one of yours”. Coming back to defending others; I have had terrible experiences just because I’m an activist saving lives and promoting human rights. I have been arrested, I have lost friends and colleagues, I have heard things and answered strange questions. People will ask me; “if you are not one of them, why defending them?” Worst of all, my Mum once threaten to disown me if I continue to defend the rights of LGBT. They say; “God is not happy with me”…..Lol! the last time I checked, God has been my pillar and source. There is no joy more than I’m fulfilled saving lives and promoting human rights. I don’t have to be gay to defend LGBT rights. No one ever asked me why I defend or address issues affecting other marginalized groups such as; PwD (People with Disability, SW (Sex Workers), PLwHIV (People Living with HIV/AIDS) and so on…. So why attach so much importance, hate and stigma to sexual minorities. By the way; who is the sinner and who is committing crime? Is it the person who is passionate, happy and in love with his/her life or the person that save lives and promote human rights or you that preach hate, condemn, judge and crucify others. Only hypocrites think some group of people are less human…..what makes you better? Source

  3. In a display of love and deep affection, a South African lesbian Cassi, went down on her knees leaving the audience in awe and then proposed to her lover Raylin at a dance training session which took place at the New World Dance Theatre (NWDT) in Cape Town. The engagement ended with friends of the beautiful couple cheering and celebrating their happiness with them and as well leaving them with good wishes. Love when found should be celebrated, we celebrate with the couple. Congratulations Cassi and Raylin!
  4. The “Kedike” singer explained that while there is nothing wrong with wanting to get married, one also needs to wait on the Lord while worshiping him and ministering to him. Some of you do not understand the benefits of being single, while you’re not married, you ought to be involved with God. At 5am you can lie in bed and pray in the spirit, you can lie on the floor and worship, you can lie in the bath, praising and worshipping for as long as you want. The Lord wants you to come home at the end of the day and say ‘Lord, I went through so much today, I couldn’t wait to get home to worship you, I’m glad you’re here’. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to be married, just take care of the Lord while you’re waiting, minister to Him and worship Him. You’re in a position and posture of prayer. The Lord has become your necessary food. There is a special relationship between God and the single believer. God has a special anointing for the woman who is free to seek Him. Her prayer life should explode in miracles. Do you agree ladies?

  6. American news network, CNN, has mocked Nigeria, asking where is President Muhammadu Buhari. The Nigerian president has not been in the country for over two months and the news television in a query on its website on Sunday asked which “head of state from which country has not set foot in his homeland in over two months?” The mockery came in the latest edition of CNN’s “The Global Public Square (GPS)” show anchored by Fareed Zakaria. In an apparent mockery of Nigeria and her President Muhammadu Buhari, CNN, on its programme displayed at 4:59pm local time on Sunday, asked,“The head of state from which country has not set foot in his homeland in over two months?” It went ahead to tick an option with the name Nigeria as the correct answer. The options were given as Saudi Arabia, Cuba, Nigeria and Syria. A screenshot of the mockery tweeted by Chidi Odinkalu, Former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission asked What do you say Nigerians? Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari has been in London since May 7 on a medical follow-up. Some political delegations including the Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo have been visiting President Buhari in London and have told Nigerians that the president is doing just fine and will soon return to continue his presidential duties. 7. Okereke who was born to Roman Catholic Igbo Nigerian parents in Liverpool launched his own solo musical career in 2010 after a successful musical career with his band Roc party. His solo career saw him release two albums ‘The boxer’ [2010], ‘Trick’ [2014], as well as three EPs ‘The Hunter’ [2011] Heartbreaker [2013] and ‘Candy Flip’ [2014]. In March 2010, Okereke came out as gay in a BUTT magazine article, with hopes that it will inspire young people and let them know that it’s ok to be uniquely different. “The reason I’m doing it is whenever I go out, I’m always stopped by young, gay kids who say it’s really refreshing and encouraging to see someone like me being out in a relatively mainstream band. “If I’d have had someone saying it’s okay to be you when I was a teenager, I’d probably be a very different person. That is why I’m doing this now, after years of not doing it. It’s good to show that gays come in all shapes and sizes.” He said. Okereke’s said one of his new songs titled ‘Yemaya’ from his anticipated album ‘Fatherland’ was inspired by the moment when he and his partner decided to have their first child together. “In the West African Yoruba religion, Yemaya is the mother goddess of the ocean, she is kinda the patron saint of pregnant women and fertility. According to myth, when her waters broke, it caused a great flood creating rivers and streams and the first mortal humans were created from her womb. When I knew we were having a baby she started to appear in my thoughts and dreams a fair bit.”
  8. Roughly 176 million cases of food poisoning and 15,000 related deaths occur each year. The elderly, the very young, pregnant women, and people with otherwise weakened immune systems tend to be most vulnerable. You’re not totally helpless, though. These simple rules may help you avoid food-borne illnesses. Avoid raw eggs Eggs have been linked to 352 food poisoning outbreaks since 1990, most often due to salmonella bacteria, one of the most common culprits of food poisoning. Chances are you’re not going to purposely down a raw egg, but remember all of the places that raw eggs are hiding: Taking a nibble of raw cookie dough or licking the spoon used to stir the cake batter can be hazardous. Shop wisely Food safety begins at the grocery store. Stop by the refrigerated and frozen sections last, so that perishable products stay cold for as long as possible. Bag raw meat separately from other foods and bring groceries home immediately to store them properly. “Choose foods carefully,” says Klein. “Look at expiration dates [and] whether something appears to have been kept at the right temperature.” Shopping at an upscale supermarket won’t necessarily protect you from foodborne illness, she adds. “Even a ‘nice’ deli can have trouble cleaning sufficiently. Wash, wash, wash All produce needs to be washed, even if you plan on peeling it before you eat it. Klein does not recommend, however, rewashing triple-washed bagged lettuce because the extra handling of these already clean greens could introduce new contaminants. But even the most thorough washing does not always eliminate your risk because, as Klein warns, “pathogens can get inside produce.” While contaminated produce sounds scary, consumers needn’t avoid nutritious foods such as spinach and tomatoes just because they have been linked with outbreaks, she says.Produce isn’t the only thing you need to wash. Remember to wash your hands frequently—and “thoroughly”—and give countertops and cutting boards a good scrub too. Separate raw from ready Never thaw food on a counter, as the outermost layer will warm too quickly, promoting bacteria growth. Use different utensils and cutting boards for preparing raw meats and for assembling ready-to-eat dishes. This will prevent cross-contamination, the easiest way of spreading the most common foodborne bacteria. Washing your sink after using it to clean raw meats is also a good idea, says Klein. Keep your eye on the temperature Looks can be deceiving when cooking raw meat. Don’t trust that a browned chicken breast is done; instead check the internal temperature of all meats with a food thermometer. Chicken and turkey should reach 165˚; steaks, 145˚; and hamburgers, 160˚. Bacteria multiply the fastest between 40˚ and 140˚, so make sure that cold food stays cold and that cooked food is hot enough. Refrigerate food at less than 40˚, and reheat cooked leftovers to at least 165˚. “Reheat things to steaming,” says Klein, “to ensure any bacteria that may have multiplied are killed off.” Source
  9. Four-time Olympic gold medallist Sue Bird has come out as a lesbian – and revealed that she’s dating US soccer star Megan Rapinoe. The 36-year-old basketball player, who has also won two WNBA championships with Seattle Storm, made the revelations during a feature with ESPN. During the piece, Bird stated that she came out to her family and friends near the start of the millennium. But the star – who is the oldest player in the league, but with no plans to retire – has never come out publicly before. “I’m gay,” she said. “Megan’s my girlfriend. “These aren’t secrets to people who know me,” she continued. “I don’t feel like I’ve not lived my life. I think people have this assumption that if you’re not talking about it, you must be hiding it, like it’s this secret. “That was never the case for me.” The absurdly decorated sportswoman, who has also won three world championships, said she wanted to come out now “because that’s what feels right. “So even though I understand there are people who think I should have done it sooner, it wasn’t right for me at the time. “I have to be true to that. It’s my journey.” She started dating Rapinoe, a US national team winger who won the World Cup in 2015, last year, in autumn. “We have a lot in common and just sort of clicked,” Rapinoe said. “I joke she is my number one go-to-for-advice person. She’s just so level-headed.” The Seattle Reign star added: “She just has this way of expressing her opinion: She doesn’t shut anybody off when she speaks. “I could probably work on that a little.” But Bird said her decision to come out was not influenced by her girlfriend. “This actually has nothing to do with Megan, in terms of how free I feel to talk about it. “This has been something I’ve been on the verge of doing for a long time.” Bird revealed that last summer, before she going out with Rapinoe, she almost came out in a magazine questionnaire called 25 things you don’t know about Olympians. “I literally had at No. 25: ‘I’m gay,’ ” she said. “And then I just didn’t do it. I chickened out.” Later, she heard a reporter casually chatting with one of her teammates, Elena Delle Donne, about her choice to come out. “I almost said: ‘Yeah, it’s no big deal. I’m gay, who cares?'” Bird said. “There’s another moment it was right there, but I didn’t say anything.” We’re glad she’s decided to do it now, in her own time. Source
