Ilé Eros is a polished casual dining restaurant which is a blend of fine dining and casual dining. I remember back in the days of the Dodo Special era by Chef Eros at La Saison Café so not surprised he has brought back this aspect of his culinary journey in addition to his cakes – Cookie Jar. Ile simply means home so its House/Home of Eros or perhaps if you like Casa Eros. Ile Eros is located off one of the busy streets in Lekki Phase 1 and that in itself is not so bad as it’s not deep in the neck of the woods in terms of access. The décor at Ile Eros has a traditional feel to it with Ankara curtains, local wall décor and some art paintings which are sparsely spread out in the space. There is a Patio outside with some fans which I think is ideal for evening rocks. The internal seating area at Ile Eros is quite limited and reservations are highly recommended. Some Grammatical Mistakes You Make And Things You Say Wrong

1) The verb – to make; Of course, you would have definitely seen some people make mistakes with this verb, it’s common to hear people say things like: “This picture makes me TO remember my past.” “Eating all the time will make you TO be fat.” “If you use this medicine, it will make you TO sleep.” I am sure you’ve already spotted the mistake, right? – Yeah, I made it obvious. The verb – to make doesn’t take “to” after it, so the correct thing to say in each sentence above is: “This picture makes me remember my past.” “Eating all the time will make you (be) fat” – in this kind of sentence, it’s more common and therefore more natural to skip the verb – “be”. “If you use this medicine, it will make you sleep.” The only time it’s fine to use “TO” after the verb – to make is when it is in the passive; for example, “I was made TO kneel down yesterday at school.” NOT I was made kneel down yesterday at school.” 2) The verb – to enable; This verb requires “to” after it, but it is so amusing that some people would leave out “to” using this verb but would use it with the verb “to make”. Here is an example: “This software will enable you TO work on your computer efficiently.” NOT “This software will enable you work on your computer efficiently.” 3) The verb – to allow; This verb also requires “to” after it. Here is an example: “My parents will not allow me TO go out today.” NOT “My parents will not allow me go out today.” 4) The verb – to reply; The mistakes made with this verb are pretty common, this verb is intransitive, which means it cannot go with a direct object, therefore, it needs a preposition for it to make sense, and therefore, you reply TO somebody or TO something. NOT reply somebody or something. “Why didn’t you reply my messages?” is WRONG. The correct thing is: “Why didn’t you reply TO my messages?” 5) The idiom – to be about to do something; Hahahaha , I remember hearing someone say: “I was just about asking same thing.” Well, the correct thing is: “I was just about TO ask you THE same thing.” 6) The noun – stuff; Yeah! This particular noun is such a pain in the ass for some people, it is uncountable, so, it cannot take an S after it and an indefinite article can’t be used with it either. “Please give me five minutes – I want to get my STUFF” NOT “Please give me five minutes – I want to get my stuffs”. “Where did you get all this stuff?” NOT “Where did you get all these stuffs?” “Where IS all my stuff?” NOT “Where are all my stuffs?” “This is good stuff.” NOT “This is a good stuff.” The only context where stuff can take an S is if it’s used as a verb: “Ade always stuffs himself with so much junk food.” 7) The nouns – slang and jargon; English is weird, yeah…but it’s not hard. So many people make mistakes with these nouns - These nouns are uncountable – yeah you read it right; UNCOUNTABLE. I remember reading an article sometime ago, it had: “20 slangs you will hear in Nigeria” as its title: If you’ve been reading this article carefully, you will have known what is wrong with the sentence. Numbers can’t be used with uncountable nouns, so the correct thing is: “20 SLANG WORDS/EXPRESSIONS/TERMS you will hear in Nigeria”. Or simply put: “Some slang you will hear in Nigeria.” – So you can use “some” with uncountable nouns and countable nouns as well. “That is internet slang.” NOT “That is an internet slang.” “Too much slang was used in the movie.” NOT “Too many slangs were used in the movie.” “His messages were full of jargon.” NOT “His messages were full of jargons.” 8 ) The noun – information; I don’t need to explain this, just keep it in mind that it is UNCOUNTABLE. “Thank you for that information.” NOT “Thank you for those informations” “What a wonderful piece of information!” NOT “What a wonderful information!” “I want to share some information with you.” NOT “I want to share you an information.” 9) The noun – advice; This is uncountable as well: make sure you do not mistake it for the verb: advise. The noun is spelt with a C and the verb with an S. “I need (some) advice from you.” NOT “I need some advices from you.” NOT “I need an advice from you.” 10) All what; If you’ve been saying this, then you need to STOP saying it! This is WRONG! It should be either: “All (that)” or “All OF what”. “All (that) I’ve been saying is that….” NOT “All what I’ve been saying is that…” 11) The noun – headache; Just as people make mistakes with uncountable nouns, they also do the same thing with countable nouns – it’s very common to hear “I am having headache”. This sentence is wrong. It should be: “I have a headache.” 12) The noun – news; This is an uncountable noun. “This is good news!” NOT “This is a good news!” 13) The expression – in the twinkling of an eye; I’ve heard and seen people say: “In the twinkle of an eye.” – This is wrong of course: it should be: “In the twinkling of an eye.” 14) The famous – “I don’t get”. Okay, I don’t want to be too annoying because I KNOW that some will get angry reading this article, but guess what? Learning never ends. We are used to saying this, but you should know that the verb – to get in this case is transitive, so it needs an object to sound okay. So I recommend that you start saying: “I don’t get IT.” Saying “I don’t get” has always sounded weird to me, I’ve asked some foreigners just to be sure it's not just me but they said it sounded weird to them as well. 15) The noun – furniture; I usually see furniture makers put up a sign like “ABC furnitures.” This doesn’t work in English; it’s an uncountable noun, so you already know the drill. “They like playing with furniture.” NOT “They like playing with furnitures.” Source -

I requested she dress nicely and accompany me out for the evening. The holiday display is always so gorgeous and romantic. After I Gained The Happy Weight We fell in love with each other’s beauty, loyalty, humility, sensuality, patience, humor, fearlessness, and mystery. We know each other so intimately but are still intrigued by what’s left to learn about one another. Chanel loved me for who I am, not who I was gonna be. I didn’t think she’d stick around cause ain’t no way she expected to be pushin’ this much cushion but, to my surprise our love only grew deeper. She still accepted me, repped me, respected me, complimented me, made love to me and uplifted me. Even after I gained all this “happy weight” she still wanted to marry me! I would ask her, are you sure? What about fat jokes? Can you deal with people jeering at the love of your life constantly? How is 320 pounds of sexy not too much for you? You do know you’re a size 4 right? I’ve since lost the weight, but Chanel taught me that when love is true love, it’s always unconditional and never superficial. It was such a beautiful and needed lesson. To anyone on a weight loss journey, you can do it, but be sure to do it for yourself. The people that are really for you are going to stand behind you at any size. Our Wedding Day We made it official on May 13, 2009, and got married three years later. Marriage was imperative for us because we wanted our family to have equal rights and protection under the law and we aspire to raise children who have two parents in their home that are in love and support one another every day. We both come from divorced homes, we wanted to take a real whack at doing better than the examples set for us. I married Chanel in a DSU sweatshirt! We went to the courthouse with only our two best friends and our two God babies in tow and got it done. Four days later, we had a wedding dinner to celebrate with our families, but the most memorable part of the day that we exchanged vows was returning home from the courthouse to see Barack Obama on TV making history by affirming his support for marriage equality and the LGBT community. It was so moving, almost like our president was giving us his blessing personally. Making Us Last After eight years, we’ve had a bunch of challenges. Seems like the ones that were the most difficult involved other people. Certain members of both of our families made it difficult for us to stay in a state of bliss and caused us to question our compatibility. There were plenty of harsh words and criticism from people we’d loved that had raised us our whole lives so it was definitely an uphill battle. We made the mistake of letting it come between us initially but ultimately learned that the feelings of no one else, kin or otherwise could ever matter more than how we felt about each other. We got past those hardships by committing ourselves to always putting each other first. Source

Rumours of a gay character on a Turkish Netflix series have fuelled anti-LGBT bigotry in the country. New Turkish coming-of-age drama Love 101, which is set to begin on April 24, unleashed a torrent of fury over unconfirmed rumours that it will feature a gay character. It’s technically legal to be gay in Turkey, but LGBT+ people in the country have few legal rights and face extreme stigma – with Pride parades still often brutally repressed by police. The Love 101 rumours have fuelled a homophobic moral panic in the country. Turkish TV watchdog says country ‘will not tolerate’ gay character on Netflix show. According to Reuters, the president of the Radio and Television Supreme Council Ebubekir Sahin made clear: “We will not tolerate broadcasts that are contrary to the national and spiritual values of our society.” Online, posts have racked up thousands of likes accusing Netflix of “trying to normalise immorality”, branding the streaming giant “Islam’s enemy” for airing the show during Ramadan, Netflix – which has championed LGBT+ representation in many of its releases – has not confirmed or denied reports about the show, but has warned of “misinformation” spreading online. The streaming giant told Turkish media: “A lot of false information is spreading from fake accounts… believe only what you hear from us about the series and the characters, not the rumours.” An official release states of the show: “Set primarily in 1998, with present day vignettes that frame each episode, LOVE 101 follows a group of 17-year-old misfits who set their mind on keeping their favourite teacher in town, so that they can stay in school. “They plot for her to fall in love with the new basketball coach, but in doing so they don’t realize that they are actually discovering love themselves. “Through this journey they will learn they have more in common than they know, are stronger together than they are apart and that love can’t be manufactured.” Plenty of people want better LGBT+ representation in Turkey While the show has faced a homophobic backlash, plenty of Turks on social media are crying out for better LGBT+ representation. One wrote: “i wasn’t planning on watching this show but homophobes were so loud and got me interested in the show. thank u a**holes for free publicity”. Another added: “Netflix Turkey said gay rights. And the homophobes stay mad”. But homophobia in the country is no joke. In June 2019, police clad in riot gear fired tear gas at Istanbul Pride marchers to disrupt the event, marking the fifth year the event has been prevented from going ahead. Source

A Florida police chief who allegedly claimed that his deputy died from complications from coronavirus because he is a “homosexual who attended homosexual ‘sexual’ events” has been suspended. Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy Shannon Bennett was 39 when died on April 3, just a week after testing positive for COVID-19. The Davie police officer had left work on March 23, feeling unwell, and went to the hospital the following day where he was tested for coronavirus. Bennett was a proudly out gay man who was due to marry his fiancé, Jonathan Frey, later this year. He is believed to be the first such line-of-duty death from COVID-19 in Florida. However, Davie Police chief Dale Engle commented that Bennett contracted the virus because he was a “homosexual who attended homosexual ‘sexual’ events”, a complaint against the chief alleged, according to WLPG Local 10. Police chief who allegedly said gay cop died of coronavirus because he attended ‘homosexual sexual events’ suspended. Florida Fraternal Order of Police chief of staff Mike Tucker issued the complaint Tuesday, alleging that Engle “berated” officers who expressed worry about coronavirus and yelled his “backstory” about how Bennett developed COVID-19. “This obviously was shocking to the members that were present, who are right now looking for reassurance,” Tucker told the outlet, “who were looking for guidance.” After the complaint, Engle was suspended from duty Saturday. “As of April 11, 2020, Police Chief Dale Engle was placed on Administrative leave pending further review of allegations brought forward by the Fraternal Order of Police,” Davie’s Town Administrator Richard Lemack said in a statement Saturday night. “The allegations will be investigated in accordance with the Town’s Equal Employment Opportunity compliance policy by outside counsel.” Tucker added: “For any reference to be made to the tragic passing of one of our brothers at the Broward Sheriff’s Office is, if true, is absolutely not only unacceptable but is just shameful. “And it’s not indicative of the professionals of the town of Davie that we know.” Source

The San Antonio Food Bank distributed one million pounds of food to roughly 6,000 families in a single day as millions across the country turn to charity organizations to avoid going hungry amid coronavirus lockdowns. Families in need waited hours to get their hands on fresh fruit, vegetables and other non-perishable goods that have become hard to find in traditional stores as panic-buying leaves shelves empty. The sight of long rows of cars waiting outside food banks has become more frequent since the pandemic has made its impact on the United States, with similar scenes seen in Florida and Pennsylvania in the last two weeks. 'The need is that great,' San Antonio Food Bank President and CEO Eric Cooper said of the huge turnout. 'We are moving through food so fast, this is our second big distribution this week, but there are hundreds of distributions that are going on all the time.' The San Antonio event dubbed 'Mega Giveaway' will be held twice a week for as long as stay-at-home orders are in place in the city, available to people who pre-register online. Thursday marked the fourth time they held the event - and the largest turnout yet. Michael Guerra, the food bank's chief resources officer, said 5,000 families signed up for the latest event, but even more showed up.
