Abystacy
SUPER Eagles head coach Stephen Keshi has been sacked by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) after the newly-elected board decided not to renew his contract due to a string of poor results. Keshi 52, has been on a match-by-match contract since the end of the World Cup as infighting within the NFF has prevented the negotiating of a new deal. Late last month, the NFF held a summit, in Warri, during which the Delta State Football Association chairman Amaju Pinnick was elected as its new president and his executive was charged with dealing with the matter. Last night, after Nigeria's ***-1 win over Sudan in Abuja, Mr Pinnick and his executive met at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel and decided to part ways with the coach. Keshi, will now be replaced by Shaibu Amodu, a former coach of the team, who will be supported by Salisu Yusuf, Gbenga Ogunbote and Aloysius Agwu, while Garba Lawal, a former player will serve as the team ‘s coordinator. Acting as a caretaker coach for now, Amodu will take charge of the team for the last two matches in the qualifying round for the 2015 African Cup of Nations. Nigeria still has to play Congo in Brazzaville and South Africa at home and needs to win both matches to stand any chance of qualifying for the Nations Cup in Morocco next year. Keshi's case has not been helped by a string of bad results since the World Cup, losing to lowly Sudan in Omdurman and Congo in Calabar. Although the Eagles beat Sudan yesterday, the performance was not inspiring and needed two goals late on to see off the stubborn Sudanese. If it's a step in the right direction, I sincerely doubt it. Keshi was a bit proud but come on, Amodu Shaibu for Keshi? awful movement. Amodu has no criteria, and for him to accept this after what he was subjected to in the past shows his class really.its like eating your own vomit. We need no mediocre. A big stepping down indeed. I fear for Nigeria football. NB: To Keshi My apologies and gooodluck.
