Administrators FlyJ Posted March 7, 2015 Administrators Share Posted March 7, 2015 WNBA stars Brittney Griner and Glory Johnson are the WNBA's power couple. Engaged since August 2014, Brittney Griner and Glory Johnson both play for successful WNBA teams. In fact, Brittney Griner's Phoenix Mercury won the 2014 WNBA championship Who is Brittney Griner? Brittney Griner is not just any women basketball player, she is one of the best, some would argue the greatest, to play the game. She led her college Baylor team to a 2012 National Championship. She is one of the most decorated women's basketball players of all time, winner of the coveted Wade trophy and she was #1 overall pick in the 2013 WNBA draft. Brittney Griner is known as being the best dunker in the women's game. As great a player as she is, Griner was the subject of bullying and harassment because of her height, her athletic ability, her gender non-conforming look and her perceived sexual orientation. Brittney Griner came out publicly after she was drafted into the WNBA. She is the author of In My Skin, an autobiography she wrote to help young people dealing with bullying, being gay and just being different. At 6'8" tall, Brittney Griner endured years of taunting, jeers, stares and just plain meanness. She rises over it all with a positive attitude to young (and all) people about being authentic and true to yourself. Who is Glory Johnson? Glory Johnson is also a successful professional women's basketball player. In fact. Brittney and Glory play against one another in the WNBA. Glory Johnson played for Tennessee Lady Volunteers and was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Year in 2012. She was picked No. 4 overall in the 2012 WNBA draft by the Tulsa Shock. She's averaged 15 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. The Proposal The world found out about Brittney's proposal to Glory the way many young people are announcing big events in their life--via social media. In this case, Brittney posted to her Instagram account. Posting a picture of herself on one knee with an engagement ring in hand, Griner posted, "Last Night was a Night to Remember I became the happiest person on this earth! (almost pass out but when that one word came out I came back to life) Me and my baby @missvol25 are in it for Life!" The two have not announced where or when they will get married. Perhaps they will wait until the US Supreme Court makes a decision about legality of same-sex marriage in 2015.
