😊

Soibi is a Kalabari (Ijaw) name; a tribe in Rivers State. They have really beautiful names (Somina, Belema, Priye, Obele, Opakrite, Boma, Abiye, etc) 😅

Nah it's an Hausa name. Meaning a female born on Saturday. The male version is Dan Asabe. It's derived from the word Asabar which means Saturday in Hausa language. Though a lot of South southerners bear Yoruba and Hausa names.

Before the Fulani conquest and Arabianizing of the Hausa people. The Hause people name their children according to the days of the week and important events.

Lantana/Dan Liti - born on monday

Talatu/Dan Tala - born on Tuesday

Laraba/Balarabe - born on Wednesday

Lami/Dan Lami - born on Thursday

Jummai/Dan Juma - born on friday

Asabe/Dan Asabe - born on Saturday

Ladidi/Dan Ladi - born on Sunday

Oh wow!👌🏾

I think I'll adopt Ladidi (Sunday-Born).

Asabe is still my favorite though; Laraba too.

Which one's yours?

It'd be nice if everyone could share theirs as well😁

I bear one of these names. Lol my folks love Hausa names like that. All my siblings bear native Hausa names. Sometimes I wonder if they were on a mission of eradicating our Edo heritage. 😂😂

My favorite is Lami.
