Manchester-United-Squad-Team-Wallpaper-HD-2013-1.jpg

'End of an era' is thrown around a lot, but now it seems genuine. Fergie no longer manager, Gill no longer Chief, Scholes retiring, Rooney possibly leaving. Moyes coming in.

United themselves seem to understand that a new era is coming with this whole 'United continued' movement and I have a feeling it is a small clue that we could be seeing major changes this summer.

From the game against Chelsea today i hope Rooney doesn't leave. He was the best player all night.

What are your thoughts and predictions for this season?

Manchester United Vs Norwich - Capital One Cup (4 - 0)

333036hp2.jpg

United eased into the Capital One Cup quarter-finals with a smooth and accomplished 4-0 win over Norwich City as Javier Hernandez bagged two goals and Phil Jones and Fabio each scored to secure a place in Wednesday's draw.

Two-goal Chicharito wasn't the only player to shine as Adnan Januzaj and Wilfried Zaha both excelled, while at the back Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic returned to the defence to oversee a clean sheet.

United had much the better of the play throughout, with Januzaj and Zaha both prominent in attack. The former played the no.10 role with presence and panache and the latter threatened frequently on the right in his second appearance for the Reds - his first start since August.

Zaha set the tone after 13 minutes with a teasing cross for Hernandez, whose shot on the spin was deflected wide. Chicharito twice went close with first-half headers but his, and United's, opening goal came from the spot. Januzaj jinked one way and another in the box and Leroy Fer clumsily clipped his heels. Chicharito confidently sent Canaries keeper Mark Bunn the wrong way, and realistically victory never looked in doubt.

Chicharito added to his tally after the break as he headed home at the second attempt from Alex Büttner's inviting cross on 53 minutes, while Anders Lindegaard made a good save from Robert Snodgrass' header, one of the few occasions he was called into action.

Phil Jones added gloss to his own impressive midfield display by volleying in United's third on 87 minutes and in the fourth of 11 added minutes substitute Fabio bundled home the ball in a one-on-one with Bunn. Three wins in a row: David Moyes will be delighted with his biggest win as Reds boss, the gathering momentum and a cup quarter-final place secured.

Manchester United *** - Fulham 1

A scintillating first-half attacking display was enough to seal a deserved ***-1 victory for Manchester United over Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Martin Jol’s men simply couldn't cope with the Reds in full flight and the visitors romped into a ***-0 lead after 22 minutes thanks to goals from Antonio Valencia, Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney.

The scoring began in the ninth minute thanks to some excellent build-up play between van Persie and Rooney. The former found the latter with an excellent turn and threaded pass that put Rooney clear. The striker could have shot himself, but opted to wait and set up Valencia to side-foot home.

After former United striker Dimitar Berbatov had nearly got in behind the Reds’ defence, almost immediately David Moyes’ men went up the other end to double the advantage on 20 minutes. Adnan Januzaj dispossessed Scott Parker in midfield before putting van Persie clear to smash into the roof of the net. Two minutes later van Persie turned provider. An excellent Tom Cleverley pass sent the striker free down the right and he advanced into the area before sending an inch-perfect cross to Rooney who couldn’t miss.

After injuries had forced Moyes into making a triple substitution at the break – Marouane Fellaini, Shinji Kagawa and Chris Smalling replaced Cleverley, Rafael and Jonny Evans – Fulham gave themselves a lifeline on 65 minutes when substitute Alexander Kacaniklic's speculative effort was deflected past David De Gea by Rooney’s outstretched boot. Another Fulham sub Darren Bent headed on to the top of the bar late on, but the Reds deservedly came away with the three points.

Manchester United held to a draw against Real Sociedad as Robin van Persie misses penalty

Robin van Persie’s missed penalty cost Manchester United all three points in their Champions League tie at Real Sociedad, with the 0-0 stalemate also marred by a late Marouane Fellaini red card.

The second-half spot kick was one of two gilt-edged chances David Moyes’ men created in a very ordinary performance in Spain, as Javier Hernandez also blazed over from four yards with the goal gaping.

It was a patient start from both sides, with the best effort in the opening exchanges coming from Shinji Kagawa who drilled the ball just wide of Claudio Bravo’s goal.

The hosts put together their first real cohesive attack midway through the first half, warning Moyes’ side they may need to up their game to gain a positive result from the tie.

But both sides generally struggled to convince in their attacking play, although the quality began to improve as the half drew to a close, with David De Gea forced to punch a deep cross clear from danger.

And Nemanja Vidic needed to time a sliding challenge in his own penalty area to precision, with Carlos Vela bearing down on United’s goal.

Real Sociedad ended the first half with their tails up and started the second half in the same manner, as Vela continued to make threatening runs forward.

But it was Manchester United who had a fantastic chance to open the scoring, when Kagawa’s low cross was blazed over the bar by Hernandez from four yards out.

Moyes made two changes midway through the second half, with Van Persie and Ashley Young replacing Wayne Rooney and Hernandez and the substitutions nearly paid off immediately.

Young’s inviting ball across the face of Real Sociedad’s goal was met at the far post by Van Persie, but his side-footed effort struck the woodwork.

And the two substitutes were involved in the visitors’ next chance, as Young went to ground to earn a penalty, but Van Persie’s effort came back off the post.

As the game petered out, Fellaini was given his marching orders having picked up a second yellow card following a series of scrappy challenges.

The dismissal summed up what was an average display from the Premier League champions, but they remain top of Group A with Shakhtar Donetsk and Bayer Leverkusen also playing out a 0-0 draw.

Premier League: Robin van Persie scored as Man United beat Arsenal 1-0 at Old Trafford

Manchester-United-v-Arsenal-Robin-van-Persie-_3033822.jpg

Robin van Persie once again returned to haunt Arsenal by scoring the only goal of the game to put Manchester United right back in the title race at Old Trafford.

The Dutchman rose highest to connect with Wayne Rooney’s 26th-minute corner and glanced his header into the far post.

The goal was Van Persie’s third in three games against the Gunners since signing for United last summer for £24million.

It was the only chance of any note in a sluggish first-half, which saw Wojciech Szczesny and Nemanja Vidic receive lengthy treatment following two separate head knocks.

Vidic didn’t reappear for the second-half, but it was Rooney who had the clearest chance to put daylight between the sides.

The England man pulled his effort wide of the post when well placed just inside the box on the hour.

Arsenal began to get a foot on the game with the introduction of Jack Wilshere, but it was United again who carved out the best goal-scoring opportunity.

Van Persie’s curling free-kick into the box evaded the entire Gunners back line, but Chris Smalling couldn’t direct his downward header on target.

Bacary Sagna carried Arsenal’s main attacking threat – putting in a host of threatening crosses from the right, but both Olivier Giroud and substitute Nicklas Bendtner failed to connect, meaning United held on for a vital three points to move them up to fifth in the table and narrow the gap on the leaders to five points.

Arsenal were handed a major injury blow ahead of the crunch clash, with Per Mertesacker and Tomas Rosicky both ruled out through sickness.

The duo were sent home from the travelling party after contracting a bug which also affected Mikel Arteta and Serge Gnabry, although the latter two made the match-day squad.
