Administrators FlyJ Posted October 14, 2013 Administrators Share Posted October 14, 2013 It's hard being gay in Africa and in this episode of "Africa In The City", Tracy of SaharaTV finds out just how hard it is to be a gay African through hanging out with 27-year-old, Michael Ighodaro, a Nigerian Gay man. In 2012, Ighodaro fled his native Nigeria for the US because of physical and verbal attacks against him for being gay. This year, Ighodaro was granted political asylum and he has since settled into a new life in New York City, with new friends in the LGBT community. Meanwhile in Nigeria, a new bill, which criminalizes homosexuality, makes the space for gays in the country non-existent. Anyone caught in a homosexual act faces 14 years in jail.
